The Housing Authority Is Where the Tribe Meets Its Members Every Day
A housing authority is the tribal program most members deal with most often: the rent office, the work order, the inspection, the maintenance truck in the driveway. Every one of those contacts tells the community what the Tribe’s standard is. NPKCG trains the people who make those contacts, and the leaders who set the standard for them.
Housing Management and Property Operations Certificate
A multi day certificate for housing staff: program operations and NAHASDA basics, inspections and compliance, lease enforcement, tenant communication, maintenance and work order systems, and professional conduct in the field. Three to five days, on site.
The Road to Readiness and The Service Standard
The Road to Readiness: emergency planning for housing authorities. What happens to the housing program in a hurricane, a wildfire, a flood, or a long power outage, and the plan the authority writes for itself during the course. Two days.
The Service Standard for Housing: customer service for the people who answer the phone and open the door. A floor for behavior, not a script, built on the idea that every tenant contact is the Tribe’s word to its members. One day.

Who Teaches
Every course is taught in person, on site or at the Native Learning Center, by Dr. William R. Latchford, DCJ, retired Executive Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police for the Seminole Tribe of Florida, and by NPKCG instructors who have run tribal programs. Housing courses draw on NPKCG’s work with tribal housing authorities and on The Wellhouse Principle, the leadership book written for tribal housing. No webinars, no slide readers.

Questions We Hear on Every Call
Can we use Indian Housing Block Grant funds? Staff training is generally an allowable administrative cost under NAHASDA. Check with your HUD ONAP area office; NPKCG can help with the justification.
Can you train the whole authority at once? Yes, and it works better that way. A boot camp format runs the frontline and leadership courses in the same week so the whole organization hears the same standard.
